This is it, my first food review. I'll be honest, this whole thing might just be a guise I use to eat more bacon double cheeseburgers. Whatever the reason, hopefully, I can help you decide if the Jackknife is the right place for you to stuff your face next!
Now, I'm not the kind of ass hat who would make you read an entire review before getting to the point, so I'm gonna start off with a score outa 10 just in case that's all you care about. And that score is (Play a drum roll in your head, I don't have the budget for that shit.)
7/10
7/10?! what a pussy score to give for my first review, I know! High enough not to piss anyone off but just low enough to make myself look like I'm picky and actually know what I'm talking about. But hey, that's my score and I'm sticking to it. So if that's all you wanted to see, feel free to fuck off. Just kidding, don't do that. Instead, read the whole review and pretend as you liked it so I can feel good about myself for once!
The Jackknife sits in the location of the old Burger Barn at the corner of Walsh and Syndicate. With all this COVID shit going on, most restaurants are take out only. Luckily for the Jackknife, that's all that location is capable of doing anyway. So, they specialize in takeouts like burgers, fries, and milkshakes.
Unlike most food reviews that focus mostly on the quality of food. I understand that most people in Thunder Bay don't exactly have money burning holes in their pockets. So a good deal of my score comes from value and the overall experience.
It fucking pisses me off when you here some prissy fuck talk about how terrible a Mic Dicks hamburger is. Like no shit, if you compare a 2$ the burger to a 30$ one, of course, its gonna twist like shit. That's why in this review, instead of having categories to break down I'm just mushing everything together in to "the good", "The OK", and "the bad"
The Good
A burger at the Jackknife is only 4.50$ and on top of that, its pretty fucking good. the patty is thick and flavourful and the bun is soft and fluffy. yey, its a burst of flavour hits your mouth, but, what sets these burgers apart is that that flavour comes from everything working together. From the sauce the vegetables everything plays a roll in this burger to make it work. no Dried old tomato was thrown on willy nilly just because "Hey, tomatoes go on burgers eh?" naw, this was a fresh tomato cut to the right size, mixed with enough onions you could actually taste their juices mixing with the unique sauce.
I don't remember the price of the fries. don't fucking judge me, this shit is hard. There was, however, a combo price that cut the cost a bit so that's nice. Anyway, they were not too expensive and you got a good deal of them, but not so much you will have to choose between waisting some or going into a 2 hr carb nap. The fries are good tho, that nice golden brown colour combined with actually tasting like a well-seasoned potato instead of a batch of chemicals really hits the spot. but I mean there's only so many ways to do fries so you have probably had fries just like em, the point is, they're good and cheap.
Now I gotta mention this even if it's obvious. They are Local. Support the fucking local businesses you Burger King loving fuck face.
The OK
Now let's face it, no one wants to talk about what's ok for too long so I'll make this quick so we can get on to the shitty stuff. The wraps, the shakes and the chicken burger. They're all reasonably priced but they also taste... reasonable. honestly, nothing wrong with these but there is also nothing special about them. I was told the poutine was good but I've yet to try it, so I have no choice but to just say its ok. I would defiantly recommend giving it a try because the guy who said the poutine was good also said the burger was good and he was right about that shit.
The Bad
Here, I have a present for you. Its a picture of a fucking bridge. Your welcome!
Why am I showing you a pic of a bridge? Well, the Jackknife has been open for over a week and not only can there website (if they have one) not be found by a quick google search, but the Facebook page has just 5 God damn pictures. Not one of them is of there actual establishment. I'm too lazy to get a picture myself so here is a pic of the bridge they are named after.
Now, what does this have to do with how good they are you're asking. It just worried me is all. Facebook and websites are basically free fucking advertising so if your not gonna get on that shit, what else aren't they gonna get on? Thunder Bay has one of the highest restaurants per capita ratio. If you wanna make it here, you gotta fucking work!
their menu is small, unorganized, and kinda shitty looking. their hrs weren't even posted when I went. lots of small shitty stuff but to there credit, they just opened and that kinda shit is expected.
Conclusion
A burger and Fry place where the best two items on the menu are the burgers and the fries. Can't go wrong with that...much. If u like burgers or cheap eats id highly recommend trying them out. What's the worst that can happen? you give 5$ to a local business? only time will tell if the small flaws will stack high enough to sink this ship. but from someone who loves the burgers, I sure hope they don't.
Ending notes
Ending notes? How the tits is that different from a conclusion?! Listen, I don't know! I'm making this shit up as I go. I just wanted to say, If you liked this, please share it or leave a comment. I wanted to give this a try mostly for fun but I'm too fucking lazy to keep doing them if no one is reading. I know, I'm so determined and inspirational eh? maybe if enough people read this ill actually buy a better grammar program so you don't think you are reading the work of a 6-year-old. 53 issues only available to premium members?! Go fuck yourself Grammarly! Anyway, love to all of you. you can fuck off now.
